National Train Day,
May 8, 2010 celebrates America‘s love for trains with events
across the country. This year marks the third annual
celebration
"National Train Day marks 141 years of connecting travelers
coast to coast and commemorates the day the first
transcontinental railroad was created. On May 10, 1869, in
Promontory Summit, Utah, the golden spike was driven into the
final tie that joined 1,776 miles of the Central Pacific and
Union Pacific railways, transforming America by creating the
nation‘s first transcontinental railroad.
"This act united the country and provided adventure for
businessmen who saw fortunes to be made, created jobs for
thousands of Americans and sparked the creative imaginations of
storytellers in songs, movies and novels."
During our National Train Day event, the museum is open to
all visitors at NO CHARGE.
We will offer round-trip train rides
to Morse Reservoir and riders will receive a $1 per ticket
discount for each donation of a non-perishable food item to the
Hamilton County food pantry that operates from Third Phase in
Noblesville. Any person donating a grocery bag full of items
will receive one free ticket.
So come on out and celebrate our nation's railroad heritage,
and support a great local charity: receive a $1 per ticket discount with
donation of a non-perishable food item (limit of 1 discount per
ticket). Or donate a grocery bag full of food items and get a
ticket FREE. (Limit of 1 free ticket for 1 bag of
groceries)
